Issues : Errors of FC

b. 1-2

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

  in A (→FEEE)

No signs in FC (→GE)

..

Fontana overlooked the dynamic hairpins in FC (→GE). The notation of A does not specify the range of the marks, since bar 2 was not written out with notes. We adopt the natural interpretation of FE (→EE).

b. 16

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

Long accent in A

No mark in FC (→GE)

Short accent in FE (→EE)

..

The overlooked accent is one of many oversights of Fontana in this Prelude – cf., e.g. b. 1-2 or 21.
As before, the clear long accent was reproduced in FE (→EE) as a short one.

g-d1-e1 in FCI & A (→FEEE)

g-e1 in FC (→GE)

..

The version of FC (→GE) resulted from the copyist having overlooked d1 in the last chord in the bar.

b. 19

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

In A (→FC,FE) as well as in FCI there is no  raising e to e. The obvious Chopin's inaccuracy was corrected in GE and EE.
FC also lacks  in front of the first L.H. quaver, E. Fontana's error was corrected in GE.

b. 21

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

In FC (→GE) the first c2 note is a dotted crotchet. The mistake was probably provoked by the complicated layout of this bar, in which the d1-f1 third of the 2nd L.H. quaver is written on the top stave next to the c1-g1 fifth of the bottom R.H. voice, thus creating an illusion of a third quaver filling c2 of the top R.H. voice.
